London slaves rescued after 30 years
Three women were rescued from a London house after being held for 30 years. Police raided the home and were shocked by the "horrific conditions" the women were kept in for three decades. They found a 69-year-old Malaysian, a 57-year-old Irish woman and a 30-year-old Briton. One of the women contacted Freedom Charity, which helps victims of forced marriages. Police think the British woman was born in captivity. She has no experience of outside life. Police said it was the early stages of a difficult and sensitive investigation. The women are "highly traumatised" after 30 years of being kept as slaves. They had no real experience of the outside world. Police said it would take time to find out the whole story. The charity said it was amazed at how no one knew the women were being kept in an ordinary residential street in central London. It said: "We often don't know our neighbours." |
