2014 Brazil World Cup - Round-up 3
We have reached the stage of the tournament where the final games of the group stage are taking place and will soon know the line-up for Round Two – the knockout stage. Holland topped their group with a maximum nine points after a comfortable win over second-placed Chile. The final two places in group A could have been taken by Brazil, Mexico or Croatia when the last two games began. Brazil's 4-1 victory over Cameroon means they play Chile in Round Two. Mexico defeated Croatia 3-1 and will face Holland next. Elsewhere in the tournament, there have already been more than 100 goals scored. This includes one for Germany's 36-year-old striker Miroslav Klose who came off the bench against Ghana to net his 15th World Cup goal. He is now joint-top, all-time World Cup record scorer with 15 goals. He shares that position with Brazil legend Ronaldo. Neymar is leading the race for the 2014 Golden Boot with his fourth goal. In a tournament of firsts, the World Cup saw its first ever water break in the extreme heat of the draw between Portugal and the USA. |
