Scientists have come after at for in of on over up with answers to the age-old question of why eyelashes are the length they are. Researchers after at for in of on over up the Georgia Institute after at for in of on over up Technology conducted a variety after at for in of on over up tests after at for in of on over up the lashes of 22 different mammals. One was to create a special wind tunnel and an artificial eye to provide mathematical models after at for in of on over up how the wind blew after at for in of on over up lashes. The conclusion after at for in of on over up head researcher David Hu is that the function after at for in of on over up eyelashes is to help protect the eyes from drying out and that the optimal eyelash length for this to happen is one-third as long as the eye is wide. Professor Hu found that across a wide variety of mammals, the ratio after at for in of on over up eyelash length and eye width was consistently one-third. Dr Hu started his investigation after at for in of on over up the birth after at for in of on over up his newborn daughter. He wondered why his baby kept after at for in of on over up batting her eyelids. He told the International Business Times that: "Eyelashes that rim the eyes after at for in of on over up mammals have been a mystery after at for in of on over up a long time as to what their function was. There were a lot after at for in of on over up hypotheses, from dust catchers to triggering the blink reflex….What we did was the first aerodynamic study after at for in of on over up eyelashes. We showed using three independent means that eyelashes reduce evaporation after at for in of on over up the eye by 70 per cent, and they reduce [the deposits] after at for in of on over up small airborne particles." A colleague said Hu had a talent after at for in of on over up , "looking at what everybody has looked after at for in of on over up , and seeing what nobody has seen."
