Nintendoland to open in Japan
Universal Studios Japan (USJ) is going to build a new theme park called Nintendoland. It will be full of rides based on Nintendo characters. A USJ spokesperson said it would be ready in 2020, in time for the Tokyo Summer Olympics. The new park will cost $351 million to build. This is nearly $100 million more than the Wizarding World of Harry Potter park at Universal Studios in Florida. Nintendo said the new park would, "include major attractions…and feature Nintendo's most famous characters and games". It will announce more details in the future. Nintendo did not say which of its brands will be in Nintendoland. Fans predict that they will get to interact with characters like Mario, Zelda and Pokemon. Fans also hope the new rides will be for people of all ages, from young to old. Osaka resident Mika Hashimoto said she was very excited the theme park will be built. She said other characters (such as Harry Potter and Hello Kitty) had a theme park, so it was good that people could go to a Nintendo park. She added: "It is about time fans of Nintendo had a place to go and have fun. I can't wait for Nintendoland to open." |
