A 96-year-old DJ has retired broadcasting more than seven decades. Ray Cordeiro hosted his final radio show Hong Kong. It has been running the RTHK station 1970. Mr Cordeiro is a legendary broadcaster Hong Kong and is a household name several generations Hong Kongers. The veteran DJ decided it was the right time to hang his boots on his show All The Way With Ray on Saturday night. He ended his final programme his customary words: "Well, that's it. Thank you very much for tuning . Goodbye. Thank you for coming." He said he was the "luckiest man in the world". He told listeners: "To do what I want to do, to love what I want to love. I don't think I have any regrets."
Ray Cordeiro is affectionately called Uncle Ray. He is known his trademark baritone voice and wearing a flat cap. His shows were full easy-listening music and chat English and Cantonese. In 2000, the Guinness Book World Records awarded him the title the world's most durable DJ. His fame extended the shores of Hong Kong. his role as Hong Kong's most celebrated broadcaster, he got to know some the biggest names in the music industry, including the Beatles. He said COVID-19 affected his decision to retire. He said: "Working these past many months the presence of COVID-19 was difficult, especially knowing that I am the high-risk demographic."
